MENA Newswire News Desk: The “Summit of the Future,” set to take place at the United Nations headquarters from September 22-23, will be a decisive moment for global leaders to solidify their commitment to sustainable development and global peace, according to Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, the UN’s Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda.

Speaking at the United Nations, Dr. Mohieldin underscored the significance of governments implementing the summit’s agreements. The UN will keep a close watch on how nations follow through on the recommendations put forth during the summit, which will coincide with the 79th session of the UN General Assembly’s High-level Week.

Dr. Mohieldin described the summit as an essential forum for advancing reforms and generating new initiatives. He highlighted that the current global system, especially institutions dedicated to peace and development, must evolve to remain effective. The summit, he said, presents a unique chance to reevaluate international frameworks and push forward initiatives related to global peace and sustainable growth.

The Special Envoy placed particular emphasis on the need for enhanced cooperation in the Arab region, which is facing mounting challenges due to conflicts and ongoing humanitarian crises. The summit will provide an opportunity to propose tangible solutions that rely on stronger international partnerships.

Dr. Mohieldin also addressed the importance of reforming global financial institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund to better align with the current global landscape. He stressed that these reforms are crucial for addressing contemporary economic challenges.

A focal point of the summit will be the aspirations of young people, especially in the Arab world. Dr. Mohieldin called for greater youth involvement in digital transformation, green development, and other emerging fields. Youth, he said, are the majority population in the region and hold the potential to drive innovation and change. The Special Envoy concluded by reaffirming that the Summit of the Future represents a pivotal opportunity to foster peace, development, and sustainability through international collaboration.
